This American-Hindu wedding at The Lageret in Stoughton has been one of the top the highlights of my 2015 wedding season! I was contacted by Elevate Events three days (yes, three!) before S + L’s wedding. Because of unfortunate circumstances, they were in need for an emergency fill-in to photograph a client’s wedding. Once I knew the details, there was no way I was going to miss this event! A two day celebration that started on Friday night with a rehearsal dinner and Henna artist for their guests was followed by two amazing and culture filled ceremonies on Saturday. Without knowing much about the couple or about Indian weddings I packed up my bags, found a hotel, and started googling “Hindu weddings” for a crash course on etiquette and culture. By the time we arrived in Madison I was so excited to see and meet S + L!
Saturday morning S + L celebrated and united in marriage under the Hindu culture first and there was SO much excitement and joy! The mixture of dancing, music, and gorgeous colorful attire on the guests were jaw dropping. At an Indian wedding, the mother and father of the bride sit under the Mandap with the couple while the groom’s parents sit with the other guests. Some of the blessings are done with only the groom before the bride is presented and the bride is then walked down the aisle. L had her two sisters walk her down the aisle because her dad was already waiting up front. After the ceremony was completed, guests enjoyed an incredible Indian catered lunch and then had a few hours to prepare for the American ceremony.
The afternoon was reserved for S + L’s American ceremony and took place at the exact same spot their Indian wedding did. Elevate Events and Jamae did such an amazing job flipping the space in a few short hours! They created a crisp, modern canopy that complimented the once tobacco warehouse venue perfectly. Both of S + L’s dogs were there as witnesses and the other small details that made their day complete were some of the very best! Even though I stepped into the scene and wedding plans late, I felt so welcomed from S + L – they are humble, kind, and down-to-Earth. Be sure to check out Part 2 of their wedding below and Part 1 here!
