I started taking photos a long time ago. I don’t know where it all began, but I’m pretty sure I use to “pose” and “style” my beanie babies when I was a kid and take their photos with a disposable camera – that’s how far back I can trace this love of mine.
In 2012, when I started taking photos for people and created a Facebook page, I figured I might as well make it “official” and have a real name and logo! With no real direction or business plan, I slapped E Photography & Design on there and called it good. And well it stuck, for 4 years.
I have known in my heart for a long time that my brand image did not reflect my work or personality the way I wanted it to. Every time I thought about rebranding, I became paralyzed with too my decisions and if I’m being honest, its hard to commit to something you have to love for a very long time (i.e.: your logo!). After going full-time in the wedding industry this year, I knew it was time. I had so many goals I wanted to accomplish but with a lack-luster brand I just wasn’t motivated to do a lot of them. For example, I wanted to create new marketing materials, like business cards, a pricing guide, and client welcome packet – however, I just couldn’t justify designing and printing these with my old branding. So, I set out on the journey of the Emily Megan brand!
My business and brand has evolved and developed so much in the last year and I wanted every point of the client experience to be true to my identity.
Why Emily Megan?
Well, it’s my name! I chose Emily Megan over Emily Polzin because it’s a lil more feminine sounding for the wedding industry and easier to pronounce. (For the record, Polzin is pronounced “paul-zine”, like magazine.) Also, if I ever get married, I wouldn’t have to change my business name again or have any confusion with the names not lining up. I also chose to stick with my name because it makes my brand that much more personal and real. Your wedding photography should be an experience and I think keeping that human element is important. I want to be a friend to my clients, not just a vendor!
What is going to happen to E Photography & Design?
My old website, www.ephotoanddesign.com, will stay up and still be visible. Anyone that lands there will be welcomed by an announcement that says “E Photography & Design is now Emily Megan” with links to www.emilymeganphoto.com, making it easy to still find and contact me! All social media links will be changed over to represent the new brand as well. Be sure to follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest!
Are you only photographing weddings now?
Weddings are where my heart is and the new Emily Megan brand definitely reflects that. In the past, I have marketed towards family, newborn, and senior sessions as well. While you won’t be seeing a lot of talk around here about that and most posts will be directed towards the newly engaged and brides, I still will be taking a very limited number of family and other sessions too. If you are a past client, be on the look out for a surprise in the mail!
What happens if we signed our contract with E Photography & Design for our 2016/2017 wedding?
No worries! I’m still the same girl, just a different business name! It’s still me and everything we discussed is the same. Your contract will hold true even with the business name change. And I promise, nothing will change about your client experience, in fact, it will probably be better!
Will you still use the #ephotobrides hashtag?
Nope! We have a community of all my bridal clients over here and to connect we have a Facebook group and use a hashtag across social media. Instead of #ephotobrides, you can now use #emilymeganbrides and #emcelebrates. So fun!
Any other surprises coming?!
Oh, lots more! Stay tuned! And if you haven’t, get your name on the list to hear about announcements and what’s going on around here first: http://eepurl.com/bPpVVT
