Engagements are my favorite sessions to book. I love them so much that I include them complimentary in my top wedding collections. My couples are in love, super giddy over each other, and ready to start their lives together – and I get to be part of it, of course they are my favorite! The season of your engagement is something that goes by so fast and sometimes seems so rushed. A session is a great way to celebrate that season and capture this small window of time before it is gone. Below are a few simple and straight forward reasons why your engagement session is an important part of your wedding prep. Take a look:
1) Have Fun!
Your engagement session is one thing you get to check off your to-do list without actually having to DO anything. The months leading up to your wedding day can be crazy and stressful. You are trying to make sure everything lines up and all the pieces of your planning fit together, by the time your engagement session rolls around you may have even thought of eloping once or twice. I am here to tell you that your engagement session will not be stressful; it is a fun way to spend some time together and not have to worry about wedding planning for a few hours. I promise that by the time we are done you will be laughing and remembering the reasons you said “yes” to that pretty lil thing on your finger and cute guy on your arm.
2) Get Comfy!
Your engagement session is great practice for your wedding day. You get to know me and I get to know you. You see how I work and I see how you two groove together. You get some modeling practice in before the big day and we laugh together as I get to hear the story of how you two met and how he proposed. Your engagement session will help set you up for portraits on your wedding day and make that camera I’m pointing at you less intimidating. Most importantly, your engagement session shows you what you can expect the day of your wedding. You won’t feel stiff and awkward because you’ll already be comfortable with me not just as a photographer, but as a person.
3) Print!
Engagement photos are great to use if you plan on sending out Save the Dates or cards. I always keep in mind composition when I am shooting a session so that some images will have enough space to include a message or announcement. I will be opening an online shop filled with custom made Save the Dates for all my couples in 2015, you aren’t going to want to miss it! Also, engagement pictures make for some classic and timeless images of your love. We all talk about having your wedding pictures printed professionally, but your engagement pictures are just as important. A gallery wall in your home of candid, authentic, real moments is going to be perfect for that empty space you’ve been meaning to fill.
